Spain, together with Portugal, the most southern part of Europe. The Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands also belong to Spain. Tourism on the mainland is mainly concentrated on the Costa's, the Costa Blanca, Costa Brava and the Costa del Sol are the most famous. The Costa Blanca is one of the most popular coastal tourist areas with Benidorm as the most famous resort. The most famous (tourist) area on the Costa del Sol stretches from west of Málaga. Here are the most famous places, such as Torremolinos, Fuengirola, Marbella and Benalmadena Costa.
Climate, extensive beaches, flamenco, sangria and Mediterranean culture are just a few of the many attractions that make Spain annually by a large number of tourists visited. In addition to the long beaches, hotel and apartment complexes, marinas, golf courses and the many shops and restaurants is also the interior of Andalusia increasing attention.
Spain is situated in south-western Europe, southwest of France, at the Iberian Peninsula, bordering Portugal, the Bay of Biscay, Mediterranean Sea, the Atlantic Ocean and the border with France (the Pyrenees). Also belonging to Spain are the Canary Islands, situated in the Atlantic Ocean. They consist of; Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, La Palma, La Gomera, El Hierro, La Graciosa and some smaller, some uninhabited islands. In front of the east coast of the mainland are the Balearic Islands situated. These include the islands of Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza, Formentera and also some (uninhabited) islands.
Spain is the third largest country in Europe and 5th in terms of population. Spain measures an area of 505,955 square kilometres. This includes the above areas outside the Spanish mainland. Spain has more than 40 million inhabitants, which by far the most in the cities or along the Costa's residence. Spain is divided into 19 autonomous regions. This includes the areas outside the Iberian Peninsula. The most prosperous autonomous regions of Spain are Catalonia and Andalucia.
